The Week that was in Revit Add-ons for the Week of November 28, 2016

New

Newly released add-ins on the Autodesk App Store included Copy Electrical Circuits, Compare Levels, Space Naming Update, and the free Quick View 3D and BIM Vault - Purger, for purging views not on sheets.

Other add-ins that we posted about for the first time included elementBit Revit Plugin, a budget-priced suite of tools, GenMEP, for routing MEP systems without clashes, and, from the same developer, a brand-new Beta product for real-time clash detection while modeling in Revit.

Regarding the elementBit Revit Plugin, the developer let us know that they plan to double the tools to 60+ by the end of this month. Also, the developer will re-brand the add-in's tab from "elementBit" to your company's name if desired.

Updated

Updates we posted about included the free TransferSingle version 1.1 – an Editor's Choice Award winner, Dynamo for Revit version 1.2.1, Detail Filter Pro, a now-commercial product for Revit 2017 that was free in previous versions, Autodesk Live Viewer version 1.6, Cut Opening version 2017.5, and Wood Framing Wall+ version 2017.17.

With this release of Wood Framing Wall+, AGACAD also announced an innovative and affordable 'Frame My Project' service. From the announcement:

Interested in our Wood and Metal framing software? An excellent way to evaluate it is via our new “Frame My Project” service. After you download a free trial of our framing software (metal or wood), take advantage of this special service. It’s a real deal.

For only 50$/50€, our BIM application engineer will log on to your PC and spend an hour framing your very own project. Sit back, watch, learn, and ask questions while your frame takes shape! Our engineer will take you through all the functionality our powerful software has to offer and share best practices.

Don't forget to check out our latest roundup of new and updated add-ins on the Autodesk App Store. We mentioned several of the add-ins in this week-that-was article, but not all.

Miscellaneous

We started out last week with our Cyber Monday promotion. We had deals from a couple of friends and advertisers we can always count on, RTV Tools and Revit Works. Our friend Emanuel Favreau also got in on the action. And we offered our own deal on advertising on Revit Add-ons. We hope you enjoyed the deals. Next year we hope to expand our offerings.

Other miscellany included a V-Ray Swarm video demonstrating the distributed rendering functionality in V-Ray for Revit, a webinar on using FenestraPro Premium 3.0 to optimize façade design and performance, and our first ever error fix, this one for the Autodesk Seek add-in for Revit 2017, courtesy of IMAGINiT Technologies.

For quite some time, we've had it on our to-do list to post about Harry Mattison granting Revit API wishes at RTC 2016 NA. We were at the event, on the exhibit hall floor and presenting, so it was challenging to keep up with breaking news. We'd covered a couple of his events in detail previously, namely for RTC 2015 NA and RTC 2016 EUR, and they'd been well-received.

In preparation for this task, when looking at Harry's website, Boost Your BIM, we learned that he's been doing this since 2013, covering nine events! And how many wishes has he granted? 59, including variants. All with source code!

So, under the category of 'better late than never', we knuckled down and got the entire series up on our site over the weekend. We also updated our first two articles for consistency and so they would appear in order with the others, as follows:

What Trended

As far as what trended in our Top Ten list for the previous 7 days, Revit Productivity Kit spent the first half the week in the top spot, our roundup of Autodesk Product Enhancements for Revit finally dropped off the list after a few months on it, our post about the latest release of Dynamo charted for most of the week, several RTV Tools offerings spent quite a bit of time in the list during the week, most notably RTV Reporter and RTV Shared Parameter Manager, and Emanuel Favreau's previously mentioned Cyber Monday deal spent almost the entire week in the Top Ten.
